Attorney General Jeff Jackson Secures Conviction in Robeson County Murder

RALEIGH – Attorney General Jeff Jackson secured a conviction against Daniel Richard Cummings in a Robeson County murder case on Tuesday. The defendant was found guilty on charges of first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, and possession of firearm by felon. Judge Ricardo Jensen sentenced Cummings to life in prison without parole.

“This defendant has a history of violence that culminated in a person’s death,” said Attorney General Jeff Jackson. “He’s going to spend the rest of his life in prison, which is the just outcome in this case.” 

Trial testimony revealed that on August 28, 2016, Nakoma Jacobs was at home in Red Springs when the defendant and others robbed him. The group was armed with multiple guns and shot Jacobs after they lured him out of his house, and also stole two guns and marijuana from his house. Jacobs was transported to the hospital, where he died from multiple gunshot wounds.

The Department of Justice’s Special Prosecutions Section prosecuted the case after it was referred by Robeson County District Attorney Matt Scott. The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case.
